UGH – I started excercising again

Holy crap. I finally did it.

Wanted to start on Monday, but here it is Thursday. Better late than never. I did make a few changes already though on Monday. I cut down on the wine. Actually went back to #weightwatchers days when I would measure 8 oz of wine a night. Last night, with chaos in the capital and staying off social media – I allowed 4 extra oz. Drank more water (which, if you count Christmas vacation, I added water to my day, so YAY!)

More chicken, less beef. More salad, less taco. Baby steps. I have until the end of March to bring my cholesterol down before having it out with my doctor. Told him I could bring it down without pills – I take enough of those for other issues – so exercise and eating better will have to suffice. Once I’m on the self control band wagon, I do really well. It’s just getting there that’s a bitch. When I’m on track, I generally stay in the 150 – 160 range. January 3, 2021, I am 180 pounds.

So, that has definitely prompted me to get my ass moving again. That was the same weight I was postpartum a decade or more ago. Yeah, what’s my excuse now? Quarantine, comfort food and wine.

I could have walked the dog more but she’s a pain in the ass to walk. 75 chocolate pounds of annoying. I love my fuzzy puppy but after 9 years of trying to get her to walk on a leash, she still kills me. She could not be happier choking herself to death. I don’t get it. Tried the dog whisterer steps and all that other jazz but here we are. Oh, and I’m not a fan of the outdoors. I guess that has to do with it also.

I LOVE my treadmill though. Husband set it up in the basement with a TV right in front of it and even an amplified speaker so I can hear what’s going on. He can hear better when he’s in the mood to run. Just could not bring myself to get on it. Everyone was always home (which, to be honest, I totally freaking loved because I’m one of those weird moms that likes having her kids and husband around, like, always) but the routine was so different. I felt like I was disrupting my husband because he has to work from home now and with the TV and my walking and his business calls, I didn’t want to be a problem for him. Boys homeschooling. Large boy child is in high school so I really didn’t have too much to do with him but the younger guy in middle school has a touch of the ADHD – he’s a dreamer. So I was in school almost as much as he was because I wanted to help keep him focused and caught up.

I have been fortunate all these years to work from home teaching piano. Didn’t think it was possible, but I taught piano online this past year. Took a bit of getting used to, but we made it work. As soon as little man was done with school, there I was going to the computer and signing on for lessons. Dinner, drinking, and there we go, another day without exercise. I LOVE sleep. Sleep is good. I am an early riser. Always have been. So come 7pm, all I want to do is sit, drink and binge something. 5:30 AM comes and by the time I get the doggie girl done, wake the kids, check my emails and get the kids organized for the day, we’re back to excuse number 1 again.

I know I can make it work. Again, once I get started, I do very well. So today I tried to get started. Don’t laugh. 4 minutes and 44 seconds. That’s how long it lasted. But not the treadmill.

We bought a rowing machine. As I sit here typing this, thinking about that time I just posted, I feel my sore shoulders and hips. I’m good with that. LOL! If I can do 2 more sets today of 5 minutes, I think I will be super happy. Tomorrow, hubby is off so I can get on the treadmill to walk out the discomfort I am sure I am going to feel in the morning. If I make myself accountable here – whether to friends, family or strangers, I can share in the journey of my weight loss and the battle with my doc.

I know I posted this before, but I am going to post it again. This is the rowing maching that I bought.

https://amzn.to/3oMougi Super comfy seat to start. Foam handles on the rower. So so quiet!!!

When I sat, I got adjusted, took my first pull and was like, WHAT?!? This is going to be WORK!!! Then I realized that out of the 12 settings, my husband left it on 6 from when he tried it out. Now, my husband is 5’11” and he found the machine to be “short” for him. Because the rower is a full bar and not a rope, it was a bit limiting for him but not something that he couldn’t work around. Now my 5’5″ self was just right – like Goldilocks without the food. I put the setting down to 1. Found the resistance to be perfect. Slight. Enough. After 2 – 3 minutes, I WAS feeling it just a little.

If I love this long enough, I know that I will have plenty of time to grow (and possibly shrink!) with it. AND, then my husband can invest in the mega expensive one that he REALLY wants within the year. Good to start small. I wasn’t sure that it would be good for me. I have back issues that go WAY beyond my weight. So far so good for today.

I will do my best to check in weekly or more to let you know how the rower/treadmill combo is going. Not big on checking my weight a lot. I know by how my clothes fit if it’s working. LOL! I will be very happy to eventually put away the bigger clothes I bought on black friday to get me through the holiday season. Until next time, happy rowing!!!!!
