AXE THROWING

weekend ideas

We are going effing axe throwing! Now, this idea came along long before Ryan Reynolds made a fun video about it.

Ronkonkoma, NY has a relatively new axe throwing place that we needed our youngest to be old enough to participate.

He is more than ready in age and height now so we’re ready to roll.

With spring break coming up here in the northeast, we have our reservation for something new and fun to do – and yes, I am posting before going, but I am so excited, I have to add it to the list now!!

I’ll be updating this post after that weekend and I’m not sure what kind of pictures I’ll have, but they will be entertaining for sure!

I have been reading about this for quite some time – and yes, as a person with anxiety, I panic a little. But as a weekend activity that my kids will talk about for a long time, I’m going to get over my big, bad self and go have fun with the kiddos.

We play darts as a family at home. So this new level of competition should be interesting.

We are renting a lane for $30 pp and from what I have seen and read on the website and Facebook page of where we are going, safety protocols are in place not just for axe throwing, but covid as well.

We will have an instructor to help us and I’m sure there will be lots of commentary from the audience as we play (that would be my sarcastic children making fun of my bad form)

I can’t wait to update this post in just a few short weeks.

4/13/21 – update – Holy Crap that was fun!!!!

axe throwing
Crazy proud of myself for getting on the board!!

Not gonna lie – we were ALL a little intimidated and hesitant once we were there. But after the 3rd or 4th throw, we were all having a great time! My oldest son kicked our butts but his friend that’s a girl (HAHA) did a pretty good job of keeping up with him.

Thank you to Molly Hatchets in Ronkonkoma, NY for showing us a fun time!

Learn to golf – even if you look like happy gilmore

When my husband and I first started dating, he took me to a driving range to try to teach me a little.

I was a bad student.

That’s okay. I still had a TON of fun.

Then my Pop decided that he did not need his golf clubs anymore and gave them to me.

Unfortunately, they have been collecting dust because shortly thereafter, the driving range became condos.

Now, 20 something years later, we have found a great place on the northshore that has a great driving range. And I think I need a new teacher. LOL!

Over the Christmas vacation, we had gifted the boys with their own putting green to get them in the spirit of the driving range and busted out my Pop’s clubs for them to choose which putters to use.

On top of that, there’s a place called TopGolf that is opening very close to us, very soon.

My family that lives in the southwest has been to these facilities many times and enjoy the heck out of them.

So, I am totally looking forward to the day it opens so I can wait a year before trying it out. I’ll stick with the driving range that will now be empty because everyone is at the latest, greatest thing to hit Long Island.

Backyard fun and games

There’s so much to choose from

All of these games are fantastic for family or grown up fun.

Because my husband is a hobby woodworker, he made our cornhole board. Notice the singular. I don’t nag.

We bought the bocce ball to try this spring as something new to do with the kids in the yard. It’s good to find games we can play together – I suck at SpikeBall but I love watching them play.

Have a Staycation Night at a Local Hotel

A great way to help the local economy.

Romantic overnight weekend or weekday getaway? Pack some candles, beverages and all your lovely goodies.

Family weekend? If the hotel has a pool – you can almost guarantee there’s enough chlorination to kill anything (the local hotel by us has scheduled pool time which I think is pretty cool)

Pack up a bunch of junk food that the kids love to eat, a few games and run away for a night.

It just may spark uncontrollable giggling and memories that will last years.

Rent a convertible car for the weekend

I know this may sound a little familiar to my last post

But in my last post, I told you to get in YOUR car.

If you have some extra money on hand, rent a convertible for a few days!!

Make sure, of course, you are renting on a gorgeous weather weekend!

Pack up the snacks, the hankerchief for your hair, the oversized sunglasses and

HIT THE ROAD!!

Crank the radio.

Sing out loud.

Don’t speed – you’ll get a ticket

Take pictures (this being the job of your passenger)

become ordained

Did it. Highly recommend.

becoming ordained
Yup! That’s me!!

I have actually been ordained for 9 years. Came close about 5 years ago to performing my first ceremony but plans changed.

2019 was my year!! My cousin and her fiancee asked me to officiate their wedding and it was the most AH-MAZING experience.

It’s a quick jump online to Universal Life Church

It cost me a total of $15 to sign in, become ordained and order my credentials.

It’s one thing to stand up as a bridesmaid with your family, but to be the one that pronounces them as husband and wife, there’s just something so much more that I can’t find the right words for it!!

Although this would not take up a weekend, more like 15 minutes, telling everyone about it and celebrating it certainly would be fun!

You can make a Facebook page or Instagram account for it and start touting yourself .
Have a blast! You can thank me later.

Now for a list of completely random ideas!!!

Grind coffee beans

Weekends are for being lazy and drinking coffee in bed.

Why not make it gourmet coffee? Go to your local specialty store, buy some beans in a variety of flavors and experiment!

Need a coffee grinder? Find one here .

Just the aroma of those beans is enough to wake you up.

Want to keep that wonderful smell going all day? Place some beans in a bowl and add a tealight candle in the middle – the warmth of the candle will send an aromatic scent through your house like your favorite coffee shop.

We have a gourment grocery store that I just discovered has Chocolate Raspberry coffee beans!! I ran there to get some, but that day they only had the ground version. I took it anyway – that’s childhood memories of going to the mall right there!

YUM!!

Learn how to juggle!

For as little as $14 you can learn how to juggle – I’m signed up for lessons during spring break

I can’t wait – I’m a piano teacher so I think it will be kinda cool to show my students that I can do other things too! LOL!

Maybe I’ll post a YouTube video when it’s all said and done.

Make it a family event- take your juggling to the next level and entertain your extended family at the next gathering

Make money for a talent you already have

Sign up for Fiverr.

Do have a talent that you can make a couple of bucks off of over a weekend?

Then sign up for Fiverr – It’s awesome.

I have a special talent. I can talk like a particular cartoon character.

I sell my talent for 15 second clips. Not a bad way to make some extra $$$$

spend a weekend “paying it forward”

How amazing would it be to spend a weekend planning on surprising strangers or leaving anonymous gifts for family and friends.

Bring the extra $5 to the coffee shop to pay for someone’s beverage

Leave flowers on the doorstep of a family member or neighbor you haven’t seen in a while.

Donate to the local food bank.

Smile and hold the door for everyone you encounter today without expecting a thank you in return.

Compliment a stranger

Bake a goody for your neighbor to let them know you are thinking of them

Donate towels and blankets to a local animal shelter.

Send text messages to your friends and family with a “thank you” for them loving you.

I love making these posts!!

Going to start working on a new list for next month.

Love this post! There are so many weekend activities that I have never considered (i.e. getting ordained). With the climate of the world right now we are all looking for fun activities to do on the weekend and get back to some normalcy. Thanks so much for sharing!
